S i m o n Download v1.2 Now! - Mac OS X only About:       Simon is a classic game invented in the 70s. It tests your memorization skills by flashing lights and emitting sounds. Information on the original game can be found here:       http://www.super70s.com/Super70s/Culture/Toys/Simon.asp       This Simon (the one that you downloaded!) is fairly similar to the original, with the only difference being that you can choose between three different levels of difficulty. Why?:       I'm learning the inner workings of cocoa / objective-c, and I figured that I'd create a simple game that would allow me to figure things out. I hadn't originally intended to release this, but several friends suggested that I release it, so I caved in to peer pressure! :D How Do I Play This Thing?:       First, you need to pick a level of difficulty. You can do this by selecting it from the menubar. Then, hit the "Let's Go!" button and memorize the played sequence. After the sequence is done playing, click the boxes in the same order as was played to you. After successfully doing this, two notes will be played, and the sequence will be played back to you, this time with an added box. After this, click the boxes in the same order.......and so forth, you get the idea. If you repeat the sequence incorrectly, a sound will make you feel so bad about yourself that you'll be forced to play another game. The Sounds are Annoying / I want to Make it Go Faster!:       Never fear, preferences are here! (Sorry, couldn't resist!) Currently, you can change the rate at which the sequence is played back to you and the volume of the sounds. E-mail me if you want me to add any other preference options... So, How Much is it?:       It's free, of course! Well, at least mostly free. If you like it, please e-mail me or send me a postcard from where you live. Ewww! Bug! Squish It!:       Calm down, it's only a computer bug! I'd like to know what happened, though. If you could e-mail me what happened, a screenshot if possible, and your system information, I'd be glad to try and fix it. Any Tips for Me?:       - Set the play sequence speed to 0.2 seconds from the default 0.5. This is especially useful if you aren't very patient. Defaulted to 0.2 in v1.2       - If you want to use your own sounds, control-click on the application, select View Package Contents, find your way to the resources folder, and replace the WAV files with your own sound files (keeping the same names, of course).       - Don't listen to music while playing the game. It'll screw you up.       - Don't play the game if you have a refrigerator. Check the Known Bugs for more information. So, How can I Annoy You?:       Annoy me? Nah, that's impossible, as long as you don't spam me...!       Email:      magicite@fablab.net       Address:  Benjamin Landsteiner                      1500 St. Olaf Avenue                      Northfield, MN 55057 Version History:       v1.2:            - Localized for Japanese            - Shuffled the colors around again            - Simon now uses the QuickTime Musical Instruments Synthesizer to create / play sounds. It now sounds much, much better than it did before.            - Implemented volume level       v1.1:            - Localized for Spanish & the French languages            - Made the app use brushed metal. Now now, I know that some of you hate brushed metal, but I really could care less. This application represents a real-world digital device, and thusly, the Aqua HI guidelines call for the use of brushed metal. Besides, I think it makes it look cooler! :)            - Changed the colors of the buttons. Why? Oh, I don't know... I was bored? They're also a bit transparent. I like the way it looks, and if you don't, email me and I'll change it back in the next release.       v1.0:            - Initial Release       v0.9:            - Removed anti-matter reactor blueprints by request of government officials            - Removed compression algorithm after realizing that it made 1 byte files 512 byte compressed files       v0.5:            - Removed artificial intelligence; no need for it in society yet            - Removed the quartz acceleration algorithm; darn Apple legal hounds...            - Added multiple levels of difficulty       v0.2:            - Scrapped the blueprints for fusion            - Added blueprints for an anti-matter reactor            - Included a compression algorithm to compress any file down to 512 bytes in size       v0.1:            - Added artificial intelligence Special Thanks:       - Jon Camp (alias Geo) for enduring all of the betas...       - Esteban Uribe (codeonezero on MacNN.com's IRC channel) for helping me get around my own stupidity & for the Spanish localization!       - TJ for making the icon for Simon. Go TJ!       - Robert Pelletier (Drizzt on MacNN.com's IRC channel & forums) for the French localization!       - Rika Ito for helping me with the Japanese localization       - Nick Benson for providing free hosting on OtterGoose.com       - Everyone else who I forgot       - Apple for making the developer tools -FREE-! Known Bugs:       - The sound played right before 'Simon' starts playing the sequence happens right after you, the player, successfully repeats the previous pattern. This is kind of annoying.       - Game tends to eat everything in your fridge while you're playing. Sorry about this, I hope to fix this at a later date. Until then, please unplug your refrigerator while playing. What? No Legal Information?:       Fine, I'll give it to you, but only because you asked for it. In short, I'm not responsible for any problems that this application may do to your machine, your social life, or time. Thank you, and please register with the butler before you leave. © 2002 MagiSoft. Benjamin Landsteiner. |
